The Southern Africa People’s Solidarity Network (SAPSN) is proud to join the global
community in observing International Anti-Corruption Day. This year’s theme, Uniting
with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity, highlights the crucial
role young people play in building a future free of corruption.
Corruption is a persistent challenge that weakens democratic institutions, erodes
public trust, and deepens inequality and poverty. In Southern Africa, it hinders the
delivery of public services, stunts economic growth, and undermines development.
Yet, the region’s youth, who form the majority of its population, have the power to
change this narrative.
At SAPSN, we see young people as vital partners in the fight against corruption. Their
energy, creativity, and commitment make them powerful agents for accountability
and transparency. By equipping young people with the knowledge and tools to
challenge corruption, we can foster a culture of ethical leadership and integrity in our
communities.
This year’s theme inspires youth to take the lead in promoting transparency and
integrity. It also calls on governments, civil society, and institutions to actively include
young voices in decision-making processes and invest in education that promotes
ethical values.
SAPSN urges all stakeholders to unite in combating corruption. Strengthening anti
corruption policies, exposing unethical practices, and supporting accountability
initiatives are critical steps toward a fair and just society.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering youth and communities to stand
against corruption. Together, we can create a future where integrity drives progress
and development in Southern Africa.
Let’s work together to shape tomorrow’s integrity today.
